That's right! Though the symptoms of Fibromyalgia may be similar the causes are unique to each individual person. So why settle for being treated like your everyone else when your Fibromyalgia is as unique as you are?

Let's get a general over view of what Fibromyalgia (FM) really is so that you can understand how iMed Chiropractic is so successful in treating FM. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder involving widespread pain and sensitivity in the entire musculoskeletal system. To be diagnosed with FM, a patient will typically possess a minimum of 11 out of 18 specific tender points over the muscles of the body. In addition to pain, patients will also report long-term fatigue, poor sleep, irritable bowels and mood disturbances. Fibromyalgia is a widespread condition. It is estimated that as many as 4% of the general population of the United States suffer from FM, with 80% to 90% of those affected being women.

For the sake of simplicity, we will breakdown the cause of Fibromyalgia into two components: Physical and Physiological. Physical is dealing with the body as we can touch and see it. Physiological is how the body function through hormones, nutrients, blood chemistry etc.

Physical - Everyone's body is physically unique. In those who suffer from Fibromyalgia hypersensitive pain signals are created at tender points throughout the body and although the muscles and joints hurt everywhere, they themselves are not the cause of pain. Much of the physical pain of the muscles will come from unique postural imbalances. Postural imbalances will cause muscles to "stay on" and become fatigued, which makes them achy. The nerves that control these muscles become "over active" because they are continually sending signals to and from the brain to keep the fatigued muscles "on" and forgets to turn them off. This is one of the main reasons for over active nerves, tender muscles and over all fatigue. Unfortunately, oftentimes as your brain forgets how to "turn off" or return to normal after telling the muscles and nerves to stay on all day. The result is not only poor sleep but even worse pain and stiffness in the morning. Patients will feel devoid of energy as if someone had "unplugged" their power supply until postural imbalances are resolved.

Physiological - How the body functions by use of different blood chemistry, hormones, nutrients etc. Everyone's body chemistry is unique. Especially when it comes to endorphins. Endorphins are among the brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which function to transmit signals within the receptors of the brain to influence our perception of pain and pleasure. If there is even the slightest imbalance to your neurochemistry you may experience chronic headaches or have difficulty concentrating and retaining new information; this is known as "fibro fog". Stress and negative emotions are the main factors for created a non-desirable imbalance. Therefore, it is of the up-most importance to not only to figure out which neurotransmitters may be imbalanced but also which environmental elements are setting off negative emotions in your life.

Another major factor in everyone's physiology that plays a critical roll in energy and inflammation is the nutritional component of blood chemistry. Figuring out which nutrients you need more of and which foods to stay away from maybe considered one of the most crucial elements to successfully treating on of the causes of fibromyalgia.
